From the Diary of Hazel Bucklin 1923 - 1924
The streets are clean and the roads mostly good, except in the slum section. The city has excellent water. In the slum section there are just open gutters for the sewage, and in the Motomachi the gutters are covered over with slabs of stone, but are used for the sewage too. There are no real sewers. There are mains for water and gas.
